Creating Cohorts and Cohorts Management

Cohorts will allow certain parts of your course to be open to predefined groups of learners.

1. Go to the course platform visible to the learner.

2. Go to Instructor, and then to Cohorts. Click on “Enable Cohorts”

3. On the Studio, go to Settings and then to Group Configurations.

4. Click on the button + Add your first content group.

5. You can now create the name of the group that you want. You can also change the name of the cohort afterwards, by clicking on the Edit button represented by the pencil icon.

Note : You can delete a cohort only if it isn’t being used in the unit. To delete the cohort click on the trash can icon.

4. Go back to the course platform visible to the learner.

5. Then go under InstructorCohorts and click on Add cohort button.

6. Define the following parameters

  • Cohort Name: better choose the same name as you have chosen in the Studio.
  • Cohort Assignment Method: by default, choose “Manual”
  • Associated Content Group: select the associated content group previously created in the Studio. This is very important in order for the learners to see the specific content.

7. Click on “Save” button at the bottom of the block.

8. Create as many cohort groups as you wish and add the learners manually. It is also possible to add learners to a group of cohorts by uploading a csv file.

Note : to see the learner enrolled into the various cohorts, click on instructor and click on the tab data download of the instructor Dashboard. Then go into the Reports section, click on the button List enrolled students’ profile information. The names of the cohorts can be found in the last column on the right.

Assigning cohorts to course components

Once your cohorts are created (see previous section) you can associate them to specific sections of your course.

1. In the Studio, go into Course Outline

Note : you can only manage cohorts at the component level.

2. Click on the icon representing an eye

3. When the dialog box opens, define the learner group to which the component will be visible.
